Restoration Editor Andrew Rose extends his presentations of the first season of the NBC Symphony broadcasts: this, from December 11, 1937, offers the second appearance of Polish music director Artur Rodzinski (1892-1958) before the orchestra in an all-Russian program. Recall that David Sarnoff, President of Radio Corporation of America, especially designated Rodzinski to assemble and prepare a new ensemble, hand-picked to perform on a permanent, year-round basis, and worthy of the talents of its intended maestro, Arturo Toscanini. The degree of musical homogeneity of sound and clean, orchestral definition manifests itself in every illumined measure of this concert, introducing music, like the 1926 Shostakovich First Symphony, still relatively new to the American public.
