In several respects, the impresario and inspiration for this Pristine issue of wartime, New York City performances by violinist Adolf Busch (1891-1952) is the writer of the program notes, Tully Potter, who in 1999 supported the release of the December 10, 1944 Dvořák Concerto with Leon Barzin and the National Orchestra Association for the Arbiter label (Arbiter 117). Potter likewise provided the liner notes for the 2002 Music & Arts issue (M&A CD-1107) of the Brahms Concerto with the New York Philharmonic under William Steinberg from July 18, 1943. Though Busch came with a long and esteemed association with the Brahms Concerto, his rendition was not so fixed that deviations in tempo and dynamics could not occur, since his 1951 reading with conductor Hans Muench (on Guild Historical GHCD 2418 and Arbiter 117) is generally broader in all respects.
